As set out in Directive 2000/30, the EU requires adoption of the “balanced approach” to noise restrictions. Before new restrictions are implemented, there needs to be an assessment of the effect of the restrictions being considered. MPD is exceptionally well-placed to assist airport operators or other authorities to meet this obligation.
Experience of Economic Impact
MPD has considerable experience in this field. Some recent projects include:-
European Commission
MPD, in association with CE Delft and ERM, prepared a report for the European Commission setting out a methodology by which the impact of restrictions on night flights could be assessed.
BAA plc
MPD prepared a report for BAA plc assessing the economic impact of night flight restrictions then proposed for the London airports.
European Commission
MPD, in association with CE Delft and ERM, performed a study for the European Commission assessing the exposure to aircraft noise across Europe under various scenarios.
Germany
Current study of aircraft noise at NATO Geilenkirchen Air Base: in conjunction with Landrum and Brown advising NATO on all feasible noise improvement options together with an analysis of their economic and environmental benefit.
