SETTING AIRLINE FEES AND CHARGES

The economic regulation of airports including charging structures can be a complex challenge to Governments, airports and airlines.

As airports continue to grow and exert monopoly influence on their geographic area, economic regulation becomes increasingly important. We undertake the financial and economic analysis required to develop comprehensive systems for regulating airport charges, quality of service, and capital expenditure, as well as advising on slot distribution and regulation and developing performance incentives.

We have advised the Dutch Government regarding Schiphol Airport and various airport operators, including Aer Rianta, on regulatory issues.

Airports need to define an optimum charging structure that maximises their income while encouraging customers to expand their operations. Our skills and industry experience in finance, economics & charging enable us to develop appropriate charging structures, assess the impact of charges to users and maximise airport funding through passenger facilitation charges.

MPD is retained by the five largest airports in Europe to research airport charges.
